What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
Customers should prepare questions for the professional they would like to work with. Make your request detailed and clear, I find it makes a difference if the designer knows exactly what or how they want to work with you. Once you picked a professional or in the process of picking someone, make sure you have all of your questions ready for them in the first session. You want to work with someone who is willing to answer all of your questions. Never be afraid to ask questions, that is how you will learn and how the designer will be able to assist you and your needs for your business.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
With a complimentary 30-minute session, we can discuss your current company brand (mission, visual brand, etc.) or goals for your business (where do you see your business, are you interested in growing your client list or increase brand awareness on social media). Once we have completed the complimentary session, I will provide you with a glimpse of what you will expect from me (a timeline, what I can provide you and an estimate on how much your package will cost).
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
BA degree in Communication Studies and minored in Public Relations / Advertising and Studio Art at Saint Mary's College. My experience started at the University of Notre Dame, creating graphics for their programs. My continued interest in graphic design became more prominent when I became an intern at NBC, Golf Channel's GolfNow.com. My latest experience was creating graphics for Finastra (Fin Tech company) where I became their global intranet webmaster (web designer, coordinating migrations with their team).
Why should you work with me?
I am a communicator and designer and my specialty is helping small business owners and team leaders to achieve well written procedural guides, develop intranet web pages, and design visual guides. I do this by marketing my skills in Freelancing sites, past colleagues and friends.
I have been successful because of my interest and passion for helping people will highlight my skills. What's unique about me/ my approach - I am personable and willing to assist future entrepreneurs to build brands and business owners to achieve their end goal.
What if I don't like it when its finished?
We will be working closely together throughout the process. You will be able to provide feedback as we go. This will ensure that you will love the finished product. If you would like to add additional work once we complete the initial project, it will be an additional fee per hour.
Branding & Design Questions
What is included in a branding package?
Branding packages are designed to suit your needs but they can include mood boards, web design, blog design, logos, patterns, business cards, thank you cards, media kits (Pinterest, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc.), brochures / flyers and marketing strategy.
How long will a branding or Design package take?
Branding Packages can take anywhere from a month to six months depending on your requirements, our communication and scheduling.
Design Packages can take 2 weeks to a month (depending on the design and project requirements).
Can I provide you with an exact design to reproduce?
Yes and no, I am happy to provide you with designs that will resemble the samples you have provided to me but I will not reproduce someone else’s work. All my work will be original and unique to your brand.
Web Design & Development
Will I be able to update content myself?
Yes you will! Upon final delivery, I will provide you with a PDF guide that will cover a range of topics including how to update content on the website and how to post blog posts if you have this functionality.
Do you offer a maintenance service?
I will happily provide occasional maintenance on your website. This would include things such as updating images and content. This is charged per hour. I will not update your blog/news section for you though – I provide a PDF guide on how to do this yourself.
Do I need to provide my own imagery for the website?
Yes and no, I encourage for you to provide any hi-resolution images you would like for your website. Please ensure you have permission from the original owner. If you don’t have any images to provide me or have an idea of what type of images you are looking for, I will look up and provide your site with stock-photos.
Will you host my website?
No, I do not offer a hosting service at this point. You will need to purchase your hosting and provide me with the login and FTP details. I recommend JustHost.com or BlueHost.com. These are both highly reliable hosting sites.
What platforms do you work with?
This is up to you. I recommend SquareSpace and Weebly but I can assist you on your WordPress site. You can view the difference between the platforms by visiting: https://www.jhbdesigns.org/website-platforms/.
Can you set up my hosting for me?
I can assist and offer advice, however coordinating hosting is your responsibility and the any technical difficulties are outside of my control.
What forms of payment do you accept?
I will accept check and PayPal as payment for services rendered.
What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
We provide 5 unique packages (to view my services, please go to my website). Just like your brand, we can customize the services we offer (select a service and we can add-on any perks) that will cater to you and your business.
How does payment work?
After our first meeting (30-minute complimentary meeting), I will send you a quote which will show how much the first payment will be. You will be required to pay a 50% deposit after approving the design brief / action plan and before I begin work. The final 50% is required to be paid after approving the final designs before I deliver the final product.
